Following his vote in favor of the House's Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA), U.S. Representative Sean Duffy (WI-07) offered the following comments on what this legislation will mean for Wisconsin's ports and waterways:
"As a co-chair of the Congressional Great Lakes Task Force, I am glad that provisions were included in WRRDA that will directly benefit our Great Lakes. Central among these is the designation of our Great Lakes waterways and ports -- including Superior-Duluth -- as a Navigation System, which will guarantee that our infrastructure and harbor dredging projects will be accurately prioritized.
"I offered an amendment, which would have further ensured that funding from the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund is only used to do just that -- maintain our harbors -- rather than being spent on unapproved projects elsewhere in the country. While this amendment was not accepted in the final legislation, I will continue to fight for our Great Lakes and make sure they are taken care of."
