Statement

Dear Friends,

As you know, the federal government reopened this week after the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate reached an agreement. I voted yes on this agreement because it was time to reopen the government, and it is clearly not in our country's best interests to default on our debts. This legislation will protect the full faith and credit of the United States, bring government employees back to work for the American people, and start a larger discussion on our nation's fiscal issues.

West Virginians expect nothing less.

Under this bipartisan agreement, the federal government will be funded through Jan. 15, the debt limit will be raised through Feb. 7, and federal employees will receive back pay. And in the coming weeks, a bicameral conference committee will meet to draft a report on fiscal issues and our federal budget.

I'll keep you posted.

My staff will be available to help Second District residents who are having problems with federal agencies and programs. Please bring along documents you have received from federal agencies related to your issues.
