"I want to thank each of the Budget Conferees for the long hours they spent forging a compromise. The broad outlines of the compromise reflect the priorities that we all articulated at the start of this session and that were at the heart of the budget that I proposed. At this point, the budget will enact a food tax cut Virginians have sought for almost 40 years, the largest one-time cash infusion for transportation ever, a significant down payment on our obligation to clean up the Chesapeake Bay, and continued strong support for our core services. And perhaps most importantly, it maintains a focused commitment to fiscal discipline.
"At present, we have gotten only sketchy details on the conference report, which will run well over 200 pages. I look forward to reviewing the report in detail over the next 30 days."
