Courtney: This Congress Has Not Earned a Half-Day

Statement

Date: Oct. 11, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, on the eleventh day of the House Republican-led government shutdown, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) released the following statement after Speaker Boehner again refused to hold a vote on the Senate-passed bill to fund the government:

"With our country suffering the impacts of this needless GOP-led shutdown for the eleventh day, I am appalled that Speaker Boehner has decided to call off votes tonight, instead sending members home at 3:30 p.m. This Congress certainly has not earned a half-day--we must get to work, hold a vote today on the Senate-passed continuing resolution, and get the people's government back up and running."
