Polis Applauds the Reopening of Rocky Mountain National Park

Statement

Today, Congressman Jared Polis released the following statement about the reopening of Rocky Mountain National Park:

"I applaud the reopening of Rocky Mountain National Park. We've been through a lot in Estes Park these past weeks. The closing of Rocky Mountain National Park, on top of the already devastating impact of the recent flood, came at the worst possible time and has been wreaking havoc on our local economy. The recent flood reduced visitation at the height of the tourist season, and the closing of Rocky Mountain National Park further decimated the tourist industries. We have been working closely with the administration to reopen to Park and are thrilled that we can now emphasize that with our major tourist attraction operational, Estes Park is open for business."

Let me be clear. Although the reopening of Rocky Mountain National Park is something to celebrate, it is a temporary measure, not a long-term solution. Ultimately, we need to end the government shutdown. But until that happens, I will continue to work to ensure that the Park remain open so the many jobs in Estes Park, which revolve around tourism and Rocky Mountain National Park, are safe."
