Horsford Statement On House GOP Shutdown and Debt Ceiling Proposal

Statement

Date: Oct. 15, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) released the following statement reacting to plans by House Republicans on the Rules Committee to craft a non-starter proposal to raise the debt ceiling:

"We are 15 days into a government shutdown and just hours away from a potential first-ever government default that would shake the foundations of global markets and undermine the full faith and credit of the United States. Instead of working together to find a bipartisan deal that can avert this crisis, House Republicans are cobbling together legislation containing a series of poison-pill provisions that will kill any bill.

"It is time for House Republicans to give up the gamesmanship. We need to govern responsibly, and that means working across the aisle and with leaders in the Senate to pass legislation to avoid this manufactured crisis."
