Bera Joins More Than 50 Republicans and Democrats Calling on Leadership to Work Together to Reopen Government, Avoid Default

Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. joined more than 50 Republican and Democrat Members of the House of Representatives at an event at the U.S. Capitol this morning to call on leaders from both parties to stop fighting, and to start working together to find a solution to reopen government and avoid default.
"The costs of the government shutdown are growing every day, and experts from all sides agree that failing to pay America's bills would be disastrous for our economy," said Bera. "It's past time for us to stop blaming one another, and start talking about how to move forward for the good of the country. This is not about Democrats or Republicans; it's about putting the American people before politics. Many of us are ready to begin working and solving our nation's problems, but we need leadership that lets us do that work."
All the members who joined the event are part of the No Labels "Problem Solvers," a bipartisan group of more than 80 lawmakers who meet regularly to find ways to get past gridlock and move our country forward. The group has been having daily bipartisan talks since the shutdown began.
Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. represents Sacramento County. Born and raised in California, Bera is a physician and the only Indian American currently serving in Congress. He's fighting to rebuild an economy that works for middle class families and to reduce our country's debt in a responsible way. One of Bera's first acts in Congress was to help lead the effort to pass the No Budget No Pay Act, which says if members of Congress don't pass a budget, they don't get paid. As a co-chair of No Labels' Problem Solvers, he's working with people from both parties to find bipartisan solutions to our nation's challenges.
