Cramer Statement on House Passage of Compromise to Reopen Government, Suspend Debt Limit

This evening Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed compromise legislation which ends the partial federal government shutdown and suspends the debt limit while requiring future budget negotiations:

"This is a short-term solution which will finally bring both sides to the table to further correct our federal deficit. It is far from ideal, however we cannot let the pursuit of perfection be the enemy of improvement. I am still hopeful we can grow the economy by reducing the debt and deficit through the broader budget negotiation this plan requires."

The legislation reopens the federal government through January 15th with the reduced, pre-shutdown annualized spending level of $986 billion, suspends the debt limit through February 7, begins budget negotiations by requiring both chambers of Congress to produce an agreement by December 13, reforms Obamacare to require income verification for people seeking government subsidies, and provides retroactive pay for federal government employees furloughed during the partial shutdown.
