Today Congressman Kevin Cramer announced the anti-sugar resolution he fought against was defeated on the floor of the House of Representatives. During a Saturday session, the House voted down language to dismantle the sugar program of the farm bill by an even wider margin than during amendment consideration in June.

"As pleasing as it was to fight back an anti-sugar amendment during the Farm Bill debate last Summer, it was even more rewarding to be on the floor of the House of Representatives today and be joined by an even larger majority who gave clear instructions to our conferees to stand strong for American jobs. I applaud Chairman Frank Lucas and Ranking Democrat Collin Peterson for their leadership on the Agriculture Committee and will continue to work closely with them as they shepherd the House priorities through the Conference Committee process. I look forward to voting for a strong bi-partisan Farm Bill providing a safety net for our farmers and savings for the taxpayers," said Cramer.

Today's anti-sugar resolution failed on a bipartisan margin of 20 votes. The same language failed in amendment form by a margin of 15 votes in June. In a floor speech opposing the resolution, Cramer said the House of Representatives should unite around the agreements in the farm bill instead of attempting re-open areas of division.
