Wasserman Schultz on Syria

Statement

Issues: Defense

Statement from U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23):

"I welcome President Obama's announcement today that he would seek Congressional authorization for the use of force against the Assad regime in Syria. The President's announcement follows multiple consultations and briefings with Members of Congress during the past week about the best course of action following evidence that the Syrian government had used chemical weapons to murder its own people, including hundreds of children.

"I look forward to hearing from the intelligence community at the Classified Briefing for Members of the House of Representatives tomorrow afternoon, in Washington, DC. As a member of the State, Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, I welcome the President's decision to ask Congress for approval of his proposal for a limited strike against Syria. This debate will help make our country stronger and ensure that we are united in a course of action."
