Horsford Call Out GOP Shutdown Tactics

Statement

Date: Sept. 28, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) voted against Republican efforts to delay implementation of the Affordable Care Act through a continuing resolution. Representative Horsford released the following statement regarding his vote:

"There is no reason that our country needs to be repeatedly taken down this dangerous partisan path that hurts our economy and creates less certainty and stability for our nation. House Republicans must quit these ideological theatrics and work with Democrats to responsibly govern.

"If House Republicans put up a clean continuing resolution, it will pass. Instead, the American public is witnessing a replay of Republican hostage-taking that caters to the Tea Party faction of their caucus. Speaker Boehner has relinquished his gavel to the extreme right. As a result, he offered a bill that derails the Affordable Care Act -- something he himself has described as the "law of the land.'"
