Cramer Statement on House Passage of Amended Continuing Resolution

Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed an amended continuing resolution just after Midnight on Sunday morning, sending the legislation back to the Senate for its consideration.

"The people of North Dakota have been clear in their opposition to Obamacare, which is why more than a week ago I voted to fully defund it while keeping the government open. Unwilling to listen to citizens, the Senate stripped out this provision and sent the bill back to the House. With a desire to fight for what the people want and an eye toward compromise, the House amended the continuing resolution with more modest reforms which are hugely popular with Republicans, independents, and many Democrats. It is my hope this bipartisan compromise is acted on quickly by the Senate and the President so we can avoid shutting down the government while protecting the American people from the worst of Obamacare."

The resolution funds the government through December 15th and contains two amendments. The first delays the implementation of Obamacare by one full year, and the second repeals the tax on medical devices included in the law. Republicans and many Democrats including Senators Al Franken (D-MN) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) have been outspoken in their opposition to the medical device tax. The House also passed separate legislation to ensure the military continues to be paid in the event of a government shutdown.
