Dear Neighbors,
On Tuesday I spoke on the House floor in support of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). It is crucial that we stand up to the majority in the House of Representatives who are proposing $40 billion in cuts to the program.
On Wednesday I was happy to meet with the leadership from Allstate. We discussed topics of importance to the insurance industry, including tax reform.
I then met with the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin this week. We talked about the importance of immigration reform, and keeping the most talented doctors in the United States.
Additionally, I met with the Chicago Automobile Trade Association this week. This trade association is the oldest and largest metropolitan new-car dealer association in the nation -- it represents over 400 new-car dealers as members.
This coming week, Congress will be focused on debates regarding the federal budget. If Congress fails to pass a budget for the next fiscal year, we risk a government shutdown.
If you have questions or concerns about this debate, I invite you to participate in a telephone townhall next Wednesday at 7:30 PM central time. I will be taking questions about the budget and receiving input from my neighbors on the call.
I hope you had a great week!
Best,
Congresswoman Duckworth
