Foxx, House Republicans Vote to Stop Government Shutdown, Defund Obamacare

Statement

Date: Sept. 20, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) today issued this statement upon the passage of a Continuing Resolution (H.J. Res 59) to fund the government from the House of Representatives:

"Without question, I am focused on preventing a government shutdown. That's why I voted with my House Republican colleagues today to pass a Continuing Resolution, in advance of the new fiscal year, that lays out how our government will be funded.

"Consistent with our conservative values, this legislation maintains current savings and also specifies that no taxpayer dollars should be wasted implementing the Obamacare train wreck. The American people, by and large, do not want the changes they see coming to their health care because of Obamacare. House Republicans agree and are united in firm opposition to the President's unfair health law.

"Today we had an opportunity to move our government away from shut down and our country and economy away from Obamacare. This was the right step to take. The Senate must now do its part to pass this legislation."
