Joyce CoSponsors Bill to Stop Congressional Pay in Event of Government Shutdown

Today, U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) announced he's signed onto the Government Shutdown Fairness Act (H.R. 3160), which would prohibit Members of Congress from receiving a salary in the event of a government shutdown. Joyce stated:

"I do not want a government shutdown because it would negatively impact seniors, members of our military, and Ohio taxpayers. If Congress fails to keep the government running, then they should not receive pay."

Joyce continued, "I'm committed to working with both sides of the aisle to keep the government running and find practical and responsible solutions to fix the harmful health care law."

The Government Shutdown Fairness Act (H.R. 3160) was first introduced by Rep. Chris Collins (NY-27) and is consistent with the 27th Amendment in holding salaries in escrow until the end of this Congress. Earlier this year, the House passed the No Budget, No Pay Act of 2013 (H.R. 325), which said Members of Congress would not be paid unless they passed a budget. Following the passage of No Budget, No Pay, the Senate adopted a budget resolution for the first time in four years.
