SENATOR MURKOWSKI APPLAUDS APPROVAL OF SAMUEL BODMAN AS SECRETARY OF ENERGY

Today, Sen. Lisa Murkowski applauded the approval of Samuel Bodman to lead the U.S. Department of Energy noting that the new Secretary has pledged to be an advocate for the opening of ANWR and the pursuance of an energy policy that benefits Alaska and the country.

"During his confirmation, Mr. Bodman demonstrated a commitment to a sound national energy policy that includes a natural gas pipeline in Alaska and the opening of ANWR to responsible oil production. I look forward to working with the new Secretary as we strive toward ending our dependence on foreign oil, increasing our national energy security and crafting a policy that will benefit the entire country," Sen. Murkowski said.

Mr. Bodman, currently the Deputy Secretary of Treasury, and former Deputy Secretary of Commerce, served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Cabot Corporation, a global specialty chemicals and materials company, and as a professor of engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
