Today, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-42) was presented with the USGS Coalition Leadership Award by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Coalition. The award was given to Rep. Calvert in honor of his long-term support for the scientific programs and personnel of the USGS.
"I am honored to receive the USGS Coalition Leadership Award," said Rep. Calvert. "The USGS continues to play an important role in providing the science and data used by natural disaster response organizations and other resource agencies. Specifically, the dangers associated with earthquakes are something Californians deal with on a regular basis. The valuable work done by the USGS provides our emergency planners with tremendous resources necessary to make informed decisions."
"We are pleased to recognize Representative Calvert for his efforts to champion the scientific programs of the United States Geological Survey. His leadership in Congress has helped increase awareness of the USGS," stated Dr. Robert Gropp, chair of the USGS Coalition and director of public policy at the American Institute of Biological Sciences. "Representative Calvert clearly understands that we all benefit every day from USGS science. The agency's research and information contribute to economic growth, improve public health and safety, and enhance our ability to smartly manage our natural resources."
