Valadao Announces Department of Justice Grants to Support California Law Enforcement in Arvin, Delano, Kings County, and Parlieruf

Today, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) applauded the Department of Justice's decision to award Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grants to Central Valley police departments. Total funds for California amount to $20 million for 39 cities, including police departments of Arvin, Delano, Parlier and Kings County.

The Cops office is a federal agency responsible for advancing community policing nationwide. Since 1995, COPS has awarded over $14 billion to advance community policing, including grants awarded to more than 13,000 state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies to fund the hiring and redeployment of approximately 125,000 officers and provide a variety of knowledge resource products including publications, training, and technical assistance.

Congressman Valadao stated, "I am pleased to announce that, as a result of these grants, Central Valley law enforcement will have additional resources to continue operations that provide critical services to the public. During a time of local budget shortfalls, the COPS program has reduced the number of officer layoffs by state and local law enforcement agencies." He continued, "The brave men and women who serve in law enforcement agencies throughout our country deserve the resources they need to keep our communities safe and I thank them for their service."

The 2013 COPS hiring Program awarded the following communities of California's 21st Congressional District:

Arvin Police Department $125,000
City of Delano $250,000
Parlier Police Deparatment $125,000
Kings County Sheriff's Department $500,000
