Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) released the following statement after House passage of H.R. 2775, the No Subsidies Without Verification Act:
"In California's 21st Congressional District families are struggling under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly referred to as ObamaCare. As the Administration continues to miss important implementation deadlines and waive or delay core provisions, it becomes clear just how unworkable this legislation is for Americans. These reforms have driven up costs for small businesses, the backbone of our economy, who are also left responsible for billions of dollars of fraud. Now the Administration wants to use the honor system to confirm insurance subsidies for individuals which, without proper verification of eligibility, could mean billions of dollars in fraudulent and wasteful payments.
"This bill provides some protection for taxpayers by stopping the Administration from handing out their tax dollars based on the "honor system.' We must hold the government accountable to taxpayers by stopping subsidies from being awarded until a viable verification system is in full affect."
