Rep. Valadao Meets with Vice President Biden

Press Release

Date: Sept. 10, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, with Washington focused on the ongoing crisis in Syria, Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) and eight other Members of Congress, met with Vice President Joe Biden at the White House to discuss the continuing debate regarding military action in Syria.

During the approximately 90 minute meeting, Vice President Biden asked those in attendance, a geographically and ideologically diverse sample of the Republican House, including Congressman Valadao to "keep an open mind" on authorizing the use of military force.

"I appreciate that the Administration reached out to such a diverse group of Members on such an important issue," Congressman Valadao stated. "However, I do not believe the United States has justification to implement military force in Syria, as proposed legislation fails to precisely define a strategy, clearly state objectives, and does not garner wide-spread support from the international community. I share this belief with an overwhelming majority of my constituents who have contacted my office to voice their opinions."

Congressman Valadao continued, "There is nothing more important to me than the lives of the men and women of our military. Any decision to act militarily should not be taken lightly."

Congressman Valadao also had the opportunity to briefly discuss the ongoing regulatory drought in the Central Valley with the Vice President. The 21st Congressional District, which encompasses nearly every water district in the San Joaquin Valley, has been especially impacted by water shortages. Congressman Valadao remains committed to working with the Administration, and his colleagues on both sides of the aisle, to secure a reliable, clean water supply for the Central Valley.
