Capito Looks to Prevent Fraud with the No Subsidies Without Verification Act

On the heels of introducing the No ObamaCare Subsidies for Members of Congress Act of 2013 on Monday, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV-02) released the following statement after voting for legislation that deals with another aspect of subsidies. H.R. 2775, the No Subsidies Without Verification Act, which Capito cosponsored, demands that verification measures are put in place before ObamaCare subsidies are issued. It requires the HHS Inspector General to verify that subsidies are only issued to eligible Americans.

"There is no shortage of issues the president has faced as he attempts to rollout ObamaCare. He has fumbled his way through the process every step of the way, even being forced to delay the employer mandate's implementation. Another glitch in the president's health care law could end up costing taxpayers $250 billion due to fraudulent payments through ObamaCare subsidies. Right now, Americans face lax standards in applying for a subsidy, leaving the door wide open to fraud.

"Rather than relying on self-attestation and sample audits, the No Subsidies Without Verification Act seeks to protect taxpayers by putting verification measures in place before ObamaCare subsidies are issued. This commonsense legislation should rightfully be passed by Congress and signed into law."
