Energy and Commerce Committee Rural Working Group Co-Chairs Applaud FCC Inquiry Into Dropped Rural Calls

Statement

Rural Telecommunications Working Group Co-Chairs, Rep. Peter Welch(D-VT) and Rep. Bob Latta(R-OH), gave the following joint statement after the Federal Communications Commission announced the agency will investigate and crack down on the problem of uncompleted long distance calls to rural areas:

"In this day and age, there is simply no good reason why call completion rates in rural areas should differ from rates in urban and suburban areas. We strongly support practical efforts by the Commission and providers to ensure affordable and high quality telecommunications services in rural America. We are encouraged by this good first step and look forward to reviewing the details of the Order. I hope the Commission will take this issue up in a timely manner."
