Van Hollen Announces $250,000 USCIS Grant for Montgomery College

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen announced that Montgomery College has been awarded $250,000 in federal funding through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The grant will help support citizenship preparation services for permanent residents.

"Montgomery College has a deep commitment to helping permanent residents in our community prepare to become citizens," said Congressman Van Hollen. "With this investment, the College will help 900 people embrace the important rights and responsibilities of United States citizenship in the next year alone."

Since 2001, Montgomery College has offered citizenship preparation classes to permanent residents in Montgomery County, Maryland. With this funding, it will expand its "Citizenship is for You' program by partnering with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, Inc. to provide legal assistance. The College anticipates that 600 permanent residents will receive citizenship instruction and 300 permanent residents will receive naturalization application services.
