U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) released the following statement regarding the tragic events today at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.:

"I'm deeply saddened by the tragedy today at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters in Washington, where many members of our military, as well as Department of Defense civilians, work. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected - especially the victims and their families, and our first responders on the scene. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Homeland Security Committee, I am monitoring developments and will closely follow the investigation as it unfolds."
