Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced he will lead a task force meeting with finance and insurance experts on improving the assessment of flood risk in coastal communities to make flood insurance more affordable. This will occur on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in Washington, D.C. Confirmed participants include members of the Congressional Home Protection Caucus, former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker and both regulators and capital market experts.
"Flood insurance is a national issue and it needs be both accessible and affordable," said Cassidy. "That's why I'm bringing together as broad of a coalition of leaders as possible on Wednesday to discuss new ways to reform and improve the national flood insurance program. The goal of my meeting is to explore ways to protect Louisianans from flawed and excessively high flood insurance rates. We are going to explore every option to keep flood insurance premiums affordable."
