Rep. Schneider Applauds Cook County Flood Grants

Press Release

Date: Sept. 9, 2013
Issues: Infrastructure

U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) applauded the Housing and Urban Development Department announcement of $13.9 million in Community Development Block Grant funds awarded to Cook County, in the wake of this spring's devastating floods.

"Flood damage in the area this year, like previous years, was extensive, and these grants will go a long way to helping our communities, businesses and families repair, rebuild and mitigate the impact of storms in the future," Schneider said. "Our community's first responders and local officials did a tremendous job in the immediate aftermath, and now this assistance will help further the great work they started."

Following the spring storms, Schneider toured many of the affected areas, discussing relief and recovery efforts with local and state officials. Schneider joined his Illinois colleagues urging President Obama to declare a federal disaster and release additional assistance for those affected by the flooding. He also hosted Satellite Office Hours throughout the district to help constituents navigate how to apply for and receive federal disaster assistance.
