Our current energy policy is outdated and unacceptable, and we need to change direction now by investing in clean, affordable energy that drives our economy forward, creates private sector jobs and reduces our dependence on foreign oil. We must take back control from the big corporations and special interests that have driven up oil prices for years and are fighting to protect the status quo. We can transform our economy and create new jobs by rewarding companies that use clean energy, and by creating incentives for companies and families to use more efficient energy.

We need to act immediately to move away from fossil fuels and bring down gasoline prices now. The big oil companies are making profits of over 60 billion dollars a year by taking advantage of Americans who are paying for their gas twice--first at the pump and then again on tax day. Yet Republicans keep giving hundreds of billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies to the oil companies, after voting 9 times against developing alternative energy. It's time to end the giveaways to big oil so we can break their chokehold that keeps us dependent on Middle Eastern oil. Instead, we should prohibit Wall Street speculators from artificially driving up oil prices and focus on developing super-efficient cars, and clean and alternative energy like wind and solar. This will create good jobs here while bringing down gas prices.
