Moran Retains Leadership Role on Key Committees
MORAN RETAINS LEADERSHIP ROLE ON KEY COMMITTEES
Continues Service on Agriculture, Veterans' Affairs and Transportation
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Jerry Moran today announced his committee assignments for the 109th Session of Congress. Speaker Hastert has tapped Moran to continue in his role serving on the Agriculture, Veterans' Affairs, and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees.
House Agriculture Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) has also reappointed Moran to his position as Chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management. The subcommittee will play a prominent role in crafting the next farm bill. Moran will also serve as a member of the Conservation, Credit, Rural Development and Research Subcommittee and the Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, Dairy, Nutrition and Forestry.
"Protecting and preserving our farms and ranches is vital for the survival of the economy and our Kansas way of life," Moran said. "As Chairman of the General Farm Commodities and Risk Management Subcommittee, I will be able to continue my work toward achieving these goals. This will become especially important as we enter into hearings on the 2007 Farm Bill. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I will make sure that the voices of our farmers and ranchers are heard in our nation's capital."
Moran has also been selected to continue serving on the Veterans' Affairs Committee. Within the committee, he will serve on the Subcommittee on Health and on the Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs. The Subcommittee on Health oversees the health care system for the Department of Veterans' Affairs, which serves nearly 250,000 veterans in Kansas.
"America's veterans deserve our gratitude and a quality health care system to take care of their needs," Moran said. "It is important that we do everything possible to guarantee that they receive the health care benefits and services they deserve for protecting our country."
Moran will also serve on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. He will also serve on the Subcommittees on Aviation; Railroads; and Highways, Transit and Pipelines. Moran's committee assignments are important to help ensure that the thousands of Kansans employed in the aviation field are represented during this changing time for the industry.
