Collins Questions Administration Officials in House Syria Hearing

Press Release

Date: Sept. 4, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Congressman Doug Collins (GA-09), Vice Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, participated in today's hearing on military authorization for Syria. The hearing, with testimony from Secretary of State John Kerry, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey, concluded after 4 hours of deliberation. After the hearing, Congressman Collins said:

"While I appreciate this opportunity and the time Secretary Kerry, Secretary Hagel, and General Dempsey gave the committee today, I do not feel that they made the case for military action in Syria. Today's hearing resulted in more questions than answers. While I look forward to continuing this debate in the House, I cannot support the president's request for authorization based on what we heard today."
