Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington:
"Today we mark the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. issued his powerful call for justice and equality. Two important issues brought hundreds of thousands of men and women to the National Mall that day: jobs and freedom. We've made important progress since that momentous day, but there is more work to be done. Dr. King spoke of the "fierce urgency of now' -- and now is the time to rededicate ourselves to building a society that creates equal opportunity and equal justice for all as we seek an ever more perfect union."
