Van Hollen Statement on the Debt Ceiling

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Treasury Department's estimation that the United States will hit the debt limit in mid-October:

"With today's news from Treasury Secretary Lew, Congress must act quickly to ensure we pay the bills we have already incurred. Any effort to play political games with the full faith and credit of the United States will result in severe economic harm. The American people don't get to choose if they get to pay their bills on time, and neither should Congress."
