Statement

Date: Aug. 30, 2013

Dear Neighbors,

As the August District Work Period comes to a close I am thankful for the time that I spent with the people I serve. This is a wonderful community and I will continue to stand up for our working families when I return to Washington. Our schools, our businesses and our entire community are achieving so much. I know that we can achieve even more when we work for common sense solutions in Washington.

This week, I held a small business conference in Palatine with the US Small Business Administration, the General Services Administration, the Department of Commerce and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. This was a great opportunity for me to connect local businesses with these federal resources and let them know about government grants that can help them grow and create jobs. I enjoyed the networking session and meeting so many small and medium business owners in the 8th District.

I also held a manufacturing discussion with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency of Planning (CMAP) at Sandvik Coromant's Productivity Center in Schaumburg. We examined the future of manufacturing in Illinois. I am more convinced than ever that together we can grow the manufacturing sector in the 8th Congressional District, creating high paying jobs.

On Friday it was a pleasure to take part in the White House Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Initiative in Hoffman Estates. The event was an opportunity to link the AAPI community to federal resources and programs. One of the great strengths of our community is its diversity and I am working to make sure that all groups in my district are being represented by their government.

Finally, I held my 5th Congress at Your Corner of the August Work Period at the Palatine Farmers' Market. It has been truly been rewarding to listen to the ideas and concerns of my constituents at these events and I look forward to seeing you at them in the future.

I hope you had a great week!

Sincerely,
Congresswoman Duckworth
