DeLauro, Pelosi Discuss Women's Economic Agenda With CT Women

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) welcomed House of Representatives Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to North Branford today for a discussion on When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families. The two heard from a number of Connecticut women about the challenges they face with pay; work/family balance; and affordable, quality child care.

"Women and their families face enormous financial pressures," DeLauro said. "For America to succeed, we need policies that reflect the way families live and work today, with both parents in the workforce and more single-parent households. When Women Succeed… does just that by dealing with pay, work/family balance and access to affordable, quality child care."

"The remarkable women we've heard from today give voice to the challenges that are all too common for women across Connecticut and our country, but they are blessed to have a tireless champion in Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro," said Pelosi. "House Democrats' economic agenda for women and families addresses these challenges, unleashes the power of our nation's women, and strengthens the middle class. When women succeed, America succeeds."

Today's event was held on the factory floor of the Pennsylvania Globe Gaslight Company, a woman-owned business with 15 employees. One of the policies highlighted by When Women Succeed…is support for women entrepreneurs and small businesses. Joining DeLauro and Pelosi were about 200 women from across Connecticut and three guests who shared their personal stories:

· Ivy Delgado discussed how paid leave helped her and her family through a tough time

· Kanesha Crenshaw told the crowd about the crucial importance of access to child care

· Deborah Bonney spoke about how she was able to pursue further career opportunities through job training
