DeLauro Statement On Proposed Rule For Safety Of Imported Foods

Statement

Date: July 26, 2013
Location: New Haven, CT

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today on newly released proposed rules to ensure the safety of our imported foods. DeLauro is a former chair of the subcommittee responsible for funding the Food and Drug Administration. She was also a major proponent of the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010, under which today's proposed rule is being issued.

"The proposed rule issued today is long overdue and should be finalized and implemented expeditiously to ensure the safety of America's imported food supply. Just as important as the speed with which it is implemented is how strong this rule ultimately is, particularly with regard to third party auditors. American families should never have to worry that their dinner will make them ill."
