Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today in reaction to the President's speech on creating jobs and rebuilding the middle class. DeLauro is the author of legislation that would establish a National Infrastructure Bank, a public-private partnership that would create jobs and bolster the economy.
"I applaud the President for his focus on what should be our top priority: creating jobs and rebuilding the middle class. If done right, revamping the corporate tax code--including closing loopholes--to encourage job creation at home rather than overseas and to better support small business can strengthen the economy.
"However, I do not support policies that would reward corporations that have avoided taxes by allowing them to bring overseas profits home at a low tax rate. Congress can reform the tax code in ways that allow America to make the investments we need to grow an economy that works for everyone over the long-term. Establishing a National Infrastructure Bank, investments in education and job training, support for innovative manufacturing and raising the minimum wage, along with replacing the sequester, are all critical steps we should take to create jobs, strengthen the middle class, support working families and better compete in a globalized economy."
