Simpson Announces New Appropriations Subcommittees

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Mike Simpson today announced his appointment to three key appropriations subcommittees with direct jurisdiction over Idaho's interests. In addition, Simpson was named Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Interior and the Environment.

Simpson, who is currently serving his second term as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, has been appointed to the Subcommittees on Energy and Water Development; Interior and the Environment; and Military Quality of Life and Veterans Affairs.

"I am honored and grateful to have received appointments to three subcommittees so important to our state and nation," said Simpson. "These three subcommittees have jurisdiction over some of Idaho's most important institutions and services, including the INL, federal lands, Mountain Home Air Force Base, Gowen Field, veterans, water development, and the environment. I look forward to serving the interests of our state on these subcommittees while being a diligent guardian of the taxpayer as we consider all 10 bills that fund the federal government."

The following is a summary of each committee's jurisdiction:

Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development
· Department of Energy
· Corp of Engineers
· Bureau of Reclamation
· Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Subcommittee on Interior and the Environment
· Bureau of Land Management
· National Park Service
· Forest Service
· Environmental Protection Agency

Subcommittee on Military Quality of Life and Veterans Affairs
· Military Construction for all branches of the armed services
· Military Family Housing
· Department of Veterans Affairs
· Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims

Simpson is also a member of the House Budget Committee.
