Statement

Dear Neighbors,

My staff and I had a great first week back home for the August work period. On Monday, I hosted an Exporter Forum with the Export-Import Bank of the United States. I was joined by over one hundred business owners and leaders from the district. We talked about the benefits of exporting goods abroad, and ways for businesses to get involved in exporting. I also enjoyed our networking session -- it was great to meet so many small business owners from the Eighth District.

On Wednesday, I hosted two Congress at Your Corner events: one in Elmhurst at Dominick's and one in Streamwood at the Streamwood Community Health Center. My neighbors came ready with questions, issues and concerns. My staff and I were happy to assist them.

On Thursday, I was able to tour two important businesses in the District: International Paper and Methode Electronics. International Paper makes display boards and boxes for a wide variety of products we use every day. I was also happy to hear about their focus on employee and workplace safety. Methode Electronics is working on new ways to support the Veteran community. Last month, they dedicated a wall of honor recognizes the sacrifice of uniformed services and NASA. They have also created 60 new full-time jobs this year alone. I applaud their efforts to hire more Veterans.

This morning, I met with the Mayors and Village Presidents of many towns in the Eighth District: Hanover Park's Rodney S. Craig, Hoffman Estates " William D. McLeod, Bartlett's Kevin Wallace, South Barrington's Paula McCombie, Carpentersville's Ed Ritter, West Dundee's Christopher Nelson, East Dundee's Lael Miller, Addison's Rich Veenstra, Carol Stream's Frank Saverino, Elgin's David Kaptain and Mt. Prospect's Arlene A. Juracek to discuss important issues in each of their jurisdictions. I look forward to continued collaboration with them on future projects within the District.

Lastly, tomorrow I am holding a Congress at Your Corner event in Lombard at the CVS at 1005 E. Roosevelt Road from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. I hope you can make it!
