Statement

Dear Neighbors,

I had a busy second week traveling around the District during the August work period. It's been refreshing to speak with so many of my constituents at local businesses and events to learn how I can better serve them back in Washington.

Last Friday I spoke at the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Schaumburg. It was inspiring to see so many strong survivors, supporters and advocates come together and raise money for cancer research.

I also met with members of the Laotian community in Elgin. We talked about women and children's health care, Lao students and their involvement in military academies and the community's contribution to the U.S military during the Vietnam War. It was great to spend time with them.

On Saturday, I held a Congress at Your Corner event in Lombard. It was great to hear comments and concerns from my neighbors.

On Monday, I sat down with WGN Political Analyst Paul Lisnek on Politics Tonight. We discussed a wide variety of topics including the struggle to pass comprehensive immigration reform and the effects of sequester on my District. To watch my interview, please click here.

On Wednesday, my staff and I visited Motorola Corporation in Schaumburg, with General Wharton from the U.S. Army. Motorola has many interesting technologies that would increase the efficiency of our military. I was happy to be able to bring Motorola and General Wharton together.
