On Wednesday, August 7, residents of the 8th Congressional District had an opportunity to reduce the federal deficit in a community-wide interactive event with Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08). Participants recommended policies to reduce projected deficits over the coming years and put America on a sound fiscal foundation. Residents discovered how difficult it can be to manage a budget with competing priorities and interests. The exercise, co-hosted by the non-partisan Concord Coalition, was free and open to the public.
"This was a great opportunity for the community to try their hand at reducing the nation's deficit," said Duckworth. "We must get serious about bringing down our nation's debt and making our country a better place to live for future generations. I was pleased to see so many residents of the 8th District join me for a productive discussion on the best ways to cut our nation's deficit."
"Even after the country has fully recovered from its current economic difficulties, we are on course for sharply rising deficits as the population ages, health care costs continue to climb rapidly and the government's interest costs rise," said Sara Imhof, Concord Coalition's Midwest regional director.
The event was held at Villa Park Community Recreation Building (320 E. Wildwood Ave. Villa Park, IL 6018) on Wednesday, August 7th from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
