Following Secretary of State Kerry's announcement of possible Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement:
"I welcome Secretary of State John Kerry's announcement today that the Israelis and Palestinians have reached a basis of an agreement to resume direct negotiations. The path to a two-state solution, providing a positive future for both Israelis and Palestinians, has always been through direct talks, and I am hopeful this step is a move forward in that direction."
"This dialogue has been long sought. I applaud President Obama and commend Secretary Kerry for their steadfast efforts bringing the parties together. There no doubt will be challenges ahead, but the engagement of the United States, and our commitment to a secure, democratic, Jewish state of Israel living side-by-side with a state of Palestine, in prosperity and peace, will be crucial to the potential success of these negotiations."
