Daines Fights for Regulatory Relief for Montana Families, Job Creators

Congressman Steve Daines today applauded the passage of the REINS Act, legislation he helped introduce to bring more accountability and transparency to the regulatory process.

Each year, federal agencies issue dozens of economically significant regulations which are estimated to have an impact on the economy of greater than $100 million. H.R. 367, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, requires Congressional approval of regulations that cost over $100 million.

Today, Daines spoke on the House floor to share Montanans' frustrations with Washington's regulatory overreach and called on the House to continue working toward reforms that provide Montana families with needed regulatory relief.

"Montanans are tired and frustrated by the EPA's ever changing rules and unreasonable compliance costs," Daines stated."The status quo is not acceptable. That's why I'm proud to have voted in support of the REINS Act, which will bring much-needed accountability to the regulatory process. This isn't a Republican issue or a Democrat issue--this is about doing the right thing for the American people and the future of our country. It's time to rein in Washington's overbearing, costly regulations and provide Montana families, business owners, and hardworking taxpayers with the relief they deserve."

This week, the House passed ten separate bills to stop government abuse, increase transparency and accountability in government and reform the regulatory process. The House also passed today the Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act, which Daines helped introduce in May to block the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from implementing or enforcing any provisions of the President's health care law.
