Ayotte Votes to Preserve Institutional Integrity of U.S. Senate

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) voted today to support a compromise agreement in order to protect the institution of the Senate from a proposal by Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senate Democrats that would have broken the Senate rules to change the rules by eliminating the rights of the minority on executive branch nominations.

"This vote preserves the integrity of the U.S. Senate and the voice of the minority on executive branch nominations," said Senator Ayotte.

With Majority Leader Reid and Senate Democrats pushing a proposal to break Senate rules by eliminating the minority's right to demand a 60-vote threshold on executive branch nominees, Senator Ayotte voted this morning to move forward with President Obama's nominee to serve as the Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFBP) - which passed on a broad bipartisan basis (71 to 29). As part of the bipartisan agreement, it is expected that two members of the National Labor Relations Board, whose appointments to the panel have been ruled unconstitutional by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in a case that is headed to the Supreme Court (Noel Canning v. NLRB), will be replaced with new nominees.
