Cassidy Urges FEMA Address Flood Insurance Rates

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) released the following statement on FEMA Associate Administrator David Miller's visit to Louisiana to learn about the impact of projected flood insurance rate hikes:

"The visit by Mr. Miller to south Louisiana is appreciated as we continue to fight for fair flood insurance rates. The is a unique opportunity for Mr. Miller to learn that FEMA's projected flood insurance rate hikes are out-of-sync with flood risk in many communities. In particular, the LAMP process must be completed before higher flood insurance rates are implemented.

"Meanwhile, I will continue pushing for the Cassidy Amendment, which was passed in a bipartisan manner, to similarly be adopted by the Senate. In addition, I filed legislation, the Home Protection Act of 2013, that will be a permanent solution to this problem and will provide protection against arbitrary premium increases. No one should have to pay flood insurance rates that don't account for all flood protections. FEMA must embrace this principle."
