Rokita: Hoosiers Have Suffered Enough Abuse from Federal Government

Press Release

Date: Aug. 2, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

This week, Rep. Todd Rokita helped lead passage and supported a series of bills to stop government abuse, create jobs and grow our economy. As part of the House Republican "Stop Government Abuse" legislative package, Rokita either cosponsored or voted for 10 bills that passed the House throughout the week.

"Hoosiers have suffered enough abuse from their federal government. From the IRS using the tax code against political enemies, to federal agencies wasting taxpayer money on skits and conferences, or the train wreck known as Obamacare, enough is enough. I will continue fighting to cut government waste, to eliminate costly and excessive regulation through my Red Tape Rollback program to get our economy going, and to ensure that the federal government stops abusing Hoosiers," said Rokita.

Ten bills made up the "Stop Government Abuse" package --

-Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care

-Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act

-Citizen Empowerment Act

-Government Employee Accountability Act

-Government Customer Service Improvement Act

-Government Spending Accountability Act

-Common Sense in Compensation Act

-Stop Targeting Our Politics IRS Act

-Stop Playing on Citizen's Cash Act

-The Taxpayer Bill of Rights

Each bill, and specifically the REINS Act, a bill cosponsored by the Indiana Republican House delegation, is expected to further strengthen the reach of Rokita's Red Tape Rollback program. Rokita spoke in support of this bill on the House floor. View those remarks here.

In early 2011, along with the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, Rokita launched the Red Tape Rollback program to solicit examples of regulations that are stopping the growth of Indiana businesses. Learn more about the program here. To date, Rep. Rokita has been contacted by 109 people about 78 regulations and has achieved 28 victories.
