WASHINGTON - United States Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) today voted against a Republican tax plan that will disproportionally benefit the wealthiest Americans and place future economic stability at risk.
Reed stated, "This is yet another irresponsible tax cut. The nation should provide the needed resources for Social Security, Medicare, education, health care and other critical priorities. Using gimmicks and bad math, the Bush Administration has pushed through a bill that strips money from these programs while giving tax breaks to corporations and wealthy Americans."

"These were the wrong tax cuts to pass. The Democrats put forward a $152 billion alternative package that would have put twice the number of people back at work, while delivering aid to those who need it most—Rhode Island's working families and small businesses."
