GOP Wasting Valuable Time that Should be Spent on Boosting Job Growth

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the House Republicans' 40th vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA):

"In their last act before they send the House home for five weeks, Republicans cast their 40th vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act -- a move that would put insurance companies back in charge of people's health care, raise taxes on 20 million Americans, and take away vital protections for 129 million people with pre-existing conditions. One again, Speaker Boehner has chosen to satisfy the political demands of the far right wing of his caucus at the expense of American families and small businesses.

"The House GOP is wasting valuable time -- time that should be spent working to replace the sequester, pass a final budget, and help put more people back to work. Congress has urgent work to do, and the GOP continues to threaten government shut down and default instead of working with us to boost economic growth. This strategy is simply reckless. We should stay in session to do the work of the American people."
