WASHINGTON- Today, Rep. Dave Joyce (OH-14)successfully secured $210 million in funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GRLI), a $150 million increase from the original level. GLRI is critical to providing the necessary assistance to further cleanup the Great Lakes region and ensure the viability of its economic success. Joyce released the following statement:
"This is a big win for the Great Lakes region but our work isn't done. The Great Lakes are directly connected to 1.5 million jobs, generating $62 billion in wages, and providing over 30 million Americans clean drinking water. It's crucial that Congress works in a bipartisan manner to protect the entire Great Lakes region and preserve its economic might and environmental integrity. Today marks a win for the Great Lakes and I plan to continue the fight on behalf of this precious resource for Northeast Ohioans."
Joyce's amendment to increase Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funding was adopted by the full Appropriations Committee during consideration markup of the Interior and Environment.
