Cassidy Praises Committee Passage of Energy Consumers Relief Act

Statement

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) successfully passed his Energy Consumers Relief Act of 2013 through the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This bill would bring transparency to the EPA's issuance of regulations with an economic impact of $1 billion or more. It would also require the Secretary of Energy to block regulations which are proven to have a negative impact on jobs and the economy. Congressman Cassidy released the following statement:

"Today, my bill requiring the EPA to be transparent when issuing major regulations passed through the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This is a victory for workers and families throughout our energy sector.

"As a doctor, I understand the importance of peer-reviewed scientific evidence. So when the EPA fails to clear their proposed regulations through third-party scientific review, it's disturbing and unacceptable. The impact of these regulations can destroy jobs and hurt our economy. By imposing transparency on the EPA, we will ensure they issue regulations which are supported by strong scientific evidence, not political agendas. This will save jobs and keep our environment clean."

29 national and regional organizations, including the National Association of Manufacturers, have endorsed Congressman Cassidy's bill.
