U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement in advance of today's bill-signing ceremony for Senate Bill 24, a Texas state law merging UT-Pan American and UT-Brownsville into one system and paving the way for a UT medical school in Edinburg and Hidalgo counties:

"Through economic development, educational resources, and boosted health care access, this landmark law will open countless doors of opportunity for residents and students alike in South Texas. I commend the legislators and local partners for their hard work to make this a reality."
