Hearing on Successful State Strategies for Small Business Growth

House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) today announced that the Committee will hold a hearing titled Beyond the Beltway: Successful State Strategies for Small Business Growth. The hearing will feature testimony from state officials from Virginia, Kansas, South Dakota, and Texas, including Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.

The purpose of the hearing is to receive testimony from state officials on the ways they are enticing and keeping business in their states. Among the issues that will be discussed are: smart regulation, lower tax regimes, low cost of business formation, and access to capital. The represented states consistently rank at the top of various 'best states for small business' rankings. The CNBC 2013 America's Top States for Business ranking will be announced on July 9th.

"In order for small businesses to create jobs, there must be pro-growth policies not only at the federal level, but also at the state level," said Chairman Graves. "Our Committee looks forward to hearing from economic officials from several states who are leading the way in fostering a business-friendly environment and entrepreneurial success. This hearing will examine why certain states are attractive to businesses and seek suggestions on what the federal government can do to create a better environment for businesses nationwide."

Testifying on the hearing's first panel will be Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell. The second panel will include Pat Costello, Commissioner, South Dakota Office of Economic Development, Office of Governor Dennis Daugaard; Nick Jordan, Secretary, Department of Revenue, State of Kansas, Governor Sam Brownback; and Aaron Demerson, Executive Director, Texas Office of Economic Development and Tourism, Office of Governor Rick Perry.
